The Seven Continents of Hetrae

The 50 species of sentient creatures are spread out (and mostly segregated thereby) across 7 continents. By segregate, I mean that many species of sentient creatures only live on one continent at a time. Humans are mostly not bound to this rule, though there is one continent that is uninhabited by humans. Before I explain the other 49 species of sentient creatures, perhaps I should do a more thorough breakdown of the 7 continents themselves. And I also add that Hetrae is roughly the size of our own Jupiter, meaning that Hetrae has larger continents and larger oceans. Though when it comes to the solar system, Hetrae is one of the smaller planets. In comparison to the largest gas giant planet of Jupiturn, Hetrae has a size difference in exact proportion of Earth vs. Jupiter.

Anyway, the talk of the other eight planets is a discussion for another time. Here are the seven continents of Hetrae:

Aquilus: the most relevant continent to our stories because Sir Persevere lives here. Its history is kind of a mishmash of America and Europe. Though in this scenario, there aren't any people comparable to Native Americans on this continent. The rise of republicanism was a more internal affair rather than a colonial one. Tesar is the only notable republic on Aquilus, for the rest of the nations on that continent maintain a more monarchical existence for the most part. The humans here are primarily Caucasian (think Anglo-Saxon, Irish, French, Germanic, and Russian), though there are some pocket populations of Asiatic and Africana (among other ethnicities) residents as a result of cross-continental migration and slave trading in the monarchies surrounding Tesar.

Brenezuras: this southern neighbor of Aquilus is separated from its northern neighbor by a massive mountain range. Its history is comparable to the Native American tribes of Central and South America. In this scenario, the natives of Brenezuras were never conquered by a continent across the oceans, though at one point evil became so great through the Maztecyans that God commanded the sentient beasts of Brenezuras to decimate humanity until they repented of their human sacrifices and other extreme abominations. The people of this continent are primarily Native/Latin American in appearance, though other minority human populations resulting from slavery and migration also live here.

Japachina: This continent boasts a proud empire that has remained largely unchanged throughout the ages after the Great Catastrophe. This empire is named Beijinokyo. It is a center of trade. Its spices and silks are largely coveted by its neighboring continents. The most elite military personnel are the samurai, who wear the traditional armor that one would find in Japan. As the name implies, this continent is inspired by Earth's Eastern Asian population, primarily Japan and China. The art style is likewise based on ancient Japan and China. However, the other dominant group of people on this continent is inspired by Earth's Indian population, who are known as the Sanskrians in this story universe. At times, the Sanskrians are conquered by the Japachinians, and at other times they are their own independent civilization. At this point, there is a noteworthy item to add. A small number of Japachinians flee from their home continent throughout the centuries and go to Tesar seeking freedom. Among the people who flee to Tesar, some are Samurai. The Samurai who come to Tesar alter their armor slightly. Inspired by the traditional European-styled armor of Tesar, the Samurai who flee to Tesar change their masks to become faceless, though the rest of the armor remains largely unchanged. There is a small elite unit of Samurai that serves in Tesar's military. They are known as "The Samurai Five Hundred." Only the best of the best Japachinian-descended Tesarians can qualify to be part of this group, and new members are officially added only when death or retirement forces older members out.

Arubia: A desert continent boasting of sand dunes and oases, though some fertile lands can be found even in this place. The people here are inspired by Earth's Middle East. The Saurabians are the dominant power during Sir Persevere's days, though at one point the Learsians were the biggest influence in the region. Prior to the fall of the Gritalian Empire, the Saurabians would rebel several times and take control over the land once inhabited by the Learsians. In response, the Gritalians would conquer them again and again, though at terrible cost. These conquests by the Gritalians to take back Arubia, and specifically Learsi's holy lands, would be known as the Great Crusades. There were three such crusades. Finally, however, Arubia would drive out the Gritalian Empire and start their own empire, known as the Byzotto Empire.

Afralica: A hot and arid continent boasting of rainforests, deserts, and savannahs. The humans here possess the darkest known skin colorations on the planet. It is the only continent with humans that resemble Earth's Africans as its primary residents, but it is also the largest continent of them all (of course, as with the other continents, other groups of people live on this continent in small numbers as a result of slave trade or simple migration). If you were to look at Afralica from the perspective of real-life influences, you would soon realize that Afralica is a fusion of Africa and Australia. Basically, Afralica is so large because Africa and Australia have been put into the same landmass for this fictional universe. As a result, there are Australian-based animals that live here as well as African-based animals. This makes for a very interesting biodiversity on this continent. By extent, this also means that people based on Aboriginal cultures live on this continent along with African tribal cultures. But the most notable culture on Afralica is none other than Xehjypt, a mighty ancient empire that is ruled by Pharaohs. Power has shifted throughout the ages for Xehjypt, and was even conquered by the Gritalian Empire at one point. But during Sir Persevere's time, Xehjypt is its own country once again and asserting its influence over its neighbors in Afralica. Sometimes, Xehjypt will make incursions on countries in Arubia, and sometimes Arubian countries return the favor.

Olympisa: A continent well known for its fertile lands. The humans here are primarily inspired by Greeks and Italians, though European Spaniards also make up pockets of the population. For centuries and even millennia, this continent was the mightiest. The people of Greco and the people of Talia set aside their long, bitter differences to unite into a Republic known as the Gritalian Empire. The power of the Republic would eventually shift into a political structure ruled by Ceasars. It would be this Gritalian Empire that would eventually claim not only the entirety of Olympisa, but also Arubia and Afralica. Though unable to conquer the Beijinokyo Empire itself, the Gritalian Empire would conquer parts of Japachina as it pertained to the Sanskrians. This empire would achieve a lot of technological advancements comparable to what you see in history books about the Roman Empire. Eventually, after two millennia of this unquestioned rule over the four connected continents, the Gritalian Empire would be driven back into Olympisa. Eventually, a renaissance would emerge from what remained of this empire in the form of beautiful works of art and literature which would be beloved throughout the world. In Sir Persevere's time, the Gritalian Empire would simply maintain its power over the Grecos and Talians.

Frostica: In the beginning, the seven continents were joined in a single super continent surrounded by oceans. The world was a temperate place with no winters and eternal spring. It was also during this time that all 49 species of sentient beasts interacted with each other and were not segregated. Then the Great Catastrophe occurred. Seven human families were selected across the seven continents by the Creator to build massive shelters designed to save themselves and the animals. When the Great Catastrophe took place, the supercontinent was ripped into seven continents. From that point on, winters took place, and the 49 sentient beast species were divided across the 7 continents. Frostica is the southernmost continent of Hetrae. It, like all the other continents, was covered in eternal spring. During the century that followed the Great Catastrophe, the humans on this continent were attempting to rebuild their lives. Unlike the humans of the other 6 continents, the humans of Frostica had actually saved the schematics of human inventions (firearms, cannons, etc.). During the first decade after the Great Catastrophe, the humans attempted to recreate the technology that had been lost. Though the Creator had requested the humans of Frostica to save the schematics, He would intervene and inform the humans that they were soon to migrate and leave the schematics behind. He further told them that Frostica would be taken away from humans and given to the sentient beasts as a place of refuge for them. Heeding this warning, the humans ceased from tampering with recreating the old technology. For another 90 years, the humans would prepare themselves for migration. During this time, the sentient beasts of Frostica became more prolific. And they were changing. Whereas the beasts of Frostica were once built for a warm lifestyle, they were gradually putting on fat and blubber. The humans of Frostica noticed that their continent was growing increasingly colder and started to adapt to a lifestyle of making coats of animal skins. And, heeding the instructions of the Creator, the humans started to build boats from the trees of Frostica. Then, 50 years after the Great Catastrophe, a great blizzard struck the continent. It was the first of its kind, and it would be the most severe. The humans would once again take shelter in their Great Catastrophe shelter as the blizzard raged on. Once the blizzard was over, the humans emerged. How shocked they were to find the trees all covered in snow and dead. From that time forth, vegetation would no longer grow on Frostica, with the exception of some mosses and lichen. Another 50 years would pass, then the Creator told the humans it was time to leave their continent. After officially passing on the care of Frostica to the beasts, the humans boarded their kayaks and sailed away from Frostica. The humans of Frostica would become nomads for a while. They wandered through the warmer continents seeking a new home, but they knew in their hearts they belonged in a colder environment. Thus, these Eskimos traveled to the northernmost parts of Aquilus, Olympisa, and Japachina and established new homes in the polar ice caps that existed there. The sentient beasts of Frostica would establish their own society. Many subsequent blizzards would strike the continent until the snow and ice was well-nigh two miles thick. The beasts created castles made of ice. They would also take the schematics of the weapons left behind by the humans and successfully recreate them. The Creator informed the beasts of Frostica that they were to always extend friendship to any wayward sentient beast that fled to their shores. Because of its weapons, Frostica would become a powerhouse unto itself. The Creator commanded the beasts that if a righteous country was under attack and called upon Frostica for aid, then Frostica must respond to those cries for help, but only after consulting with the Creator to determine if the nations calling upon Frostica were indeed righteous.
